Hutoushan in One Sentence
A high point beside Puli's urban area, with an open-view platform at the summit overlooking the entire Puli Basin. By day it's a paragliding base; at dusk it becomes the most popular spot for night views. About a 6-minute drive from Green Manor Flying Pavilion.
When to Go
Arrive 30 minutes before sunset for the best experience, watching the sky shift from gold to blue to black. Paragliders usually launch during the day when wind conditions are good, so schedule an afternoon visit if you want to see them.
Getting There and Parking
From Green Manor Flying Pavilion toward Hutoushan, the drive is about 6 minutes; the mountain road is narrow, so be careful when passing oncoming vehicles. Parking at the summit is limited—on holidays, arrive early or carpool.
Things to Note
It's windy at the summit and there are no streetlights at night, so bring a jacket and flashlight. Do not approach the platform edges where there are no railings.
Suggested Side Trips
Hutoushan is close to both Liyu Lake and the Earth Mother Temple, so you can plan a day-ending route of "Liyu Lake in the afternoon → Earth Mother Temple at dusk → Hutoushan at night."

Photography Tips
For night shots, bring a tripod—the sky looks best in the 20 minutes after sunset when it turns blue. To photograph paragliders you'll need a telephoto lens; the launch point is on the slope below.
Safety Reminders
It's windy at the summit and there are no streetlights at night, so go with companions and bring a flashlight. Don't approach platform edges without railings, and slow down after rain since the ground gets slippery.
When the Weather Is Clearest
Visibility is best on clear nights after rain when the air is clean; on foggy or humid days the view is poor, so you can postpone your trip to the next day.
